The Student Historical Society of Nigeria (SHSN), University of Ibadan chapter, on April 15, 2026, held its freshers’ orientation at NFCUGO1, Faculty of Arts, themed “The Role of the Historian in a Changing World.”
The event featured notable lecturers including Dr. Moujama, Dr. Ilupeju, Dr. Ogunrinu and Dr. Abolorunde Ayo, who addressed the new students on different aspects of academic and personal development.
In his address, Dr. Moujama urged freshers to adapt to a rapidly evolving world shaped by artificial intelligence and technology. He encouraged them to remain diligent and acquire additional skills, including learning new languages, to stay relevant.
Dr. Ilupeju, the examination officer, advised the students not to underestimate their potential, noting that they could achieve whatever they set their minds to. She also shared practical tips on examination techniques to help them maintain a strong CGPA.
Dr. Ogunrinu encouraged the students to “give life their best shot,” stressing that despite global changes, education remains valuable. Similarly, Dr. Abolorunde Ayo emphasised the need for students to prioritise their academics as the primary focus of their university journey.
The programme also featured talent displays, including singing, dancing and poetry recitations. Student bodies such as the Press Organisation, History Students’ Society and the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria also introduced freshers to their activities.
Certificates were presented to outstanding participants, while the Social Director delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the programme to a close.
